Debutants Kyantamba Secondary School wasted no time in stamping their presence on the national stage, grinding out a hard-fought 22-22 draw against the seasoned Bukedea Comprehensive School in a pulsating Group G contest.
In a match defined by tactical discipline and resilience, the Luweero Zone champions demonstrated composure beyond their experience, signaling serious intent to progress beyond the group phase.
Kyantamba will return to court on Saturday for another defining fixture against Kasana Vocational Secondary School at 12:00 PM, a clash that could shape the trajectory of Group G.
Elsewhere, Masaka Zone champions Kadugala Secondary School opened their campaign on a winning note, securing a 19-15 victory over Ibun Barz in a controlled performance that underlined their defensive solidity.
Kampala Zone powerhouse Baptist High School delivered one of the most emphatic results of the day, dismantling Premier City 50-05 in a one-sided affair.
Kawanda Secondary School also impressed with a composed 25-17 win over Fort Portal SS, while Trinity Catholic registered a dominant 44-4 triumph against Moroto Secondary School.
Traditional heavyweights made early statements, with Buddo Secondary School cruising to commanding wins, St. Mary’s Kitende overcoming rivals Greenlight Islamic Secondary School 25-16, and St. Noa Girls Secondary School asserting dominance with a ruthless 41-2 victory over Buwunga SS.
The championship, which runs until July 17, will culminate in the grand finale and awarding ceremony, with the top four teams earning qualification to the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games.
This year’s FEASSA Games are slated for August 12–23 in Morogoro, Tanzania, setting the stage for regional supremacy.
With opening day delivering both expected dominance and emerging competition, the race for national glory in Gulu is already gathering compelling momentum.
