Rines Secondary School etched their name into history with a commanding 3-0 victory over Boni Consilii to win the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) U20 Girls’ Football Championship, securing their maiden national crown in emphatic fashion.
Played under a charged atmosphere at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Friday, 3rd July, the final showcased Rines’ tactical discipline, clinical finishing, and composure on the big stage—qualities that ultimately set them apart.
The breakthrough arrived late in the first half when Patricia Nakato Nanyanzi calmly converted from the penalty spot after Justine Ayerango was brought down in the box. The goal handed Rines a deserved lead heading into the interval.
Rines returned from the break with renewed attacking intent and doubled their advantage in the 50th minute. Zuena Nandegho delivered a precise low cross that Trina Nakawuki met with a composed finish to make it 2-0.
Just six minutes later, Ayerango turned from provider to scorer, capitalizing on a costly goalkeeping lapse to seal the victory and cap a dominant performance.
The triumph marks a significant milestone for Rines SS, who had previously fallen short in the 2024 final, finishing runners-up to Kawempe Muslim SS in Ndejje.
This time, however, they demonstrated growth, resilience, and maturity to go one better and claim the ultimate prize.
Their route to the final was equally compelling.
In the semi-finals, Rines edged Amus College School in a tense encounter that ended goalless in regulation time.
With clear-cut chances at a premium, the contest was decided by penalties, where Rines showed remarkable composure while Amus faltered, missing all three of their attempts.
Boni Consilii’s journey to the final was defined by grit and character.
The Western Region champions produced a stirring comeback against defending champions St Noa Girls School in the semi-finals, overturning a first-half deficit to draw 2-2 before prevailing 3-2 in a dramatic penalty shootout.
St Noa had looked poised for another final appearance after Martha Babirye’s sublime long-range free kick gave them the lead.
However, tactical substitutions proved pivotal for Boni, as Peace Muduwa restored parity before Ariho Rinah struck a spectacular effort to put them ahead.
Katusiime Evelyn’s late equalizer forced penalties, where Boni held their nerve to complete a memorable turnaround and avenge last year’s heavy defeat.
Despite their semi-final exits, both St Noa Girls School and Amus College School secured qualification for the forthcoming FEASSA Games, joining finalists Rines SS and Boni Consilii as Uganda’s representatives at the regional showpiece scheduled for August in Tanzania.
Individual brilliance was also recognised, with Justine Ayerango named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, while Bridget Nansamba earned the Best Goalkeeper accolade—further underlining Rines SS’s dominance in a campaign that will be remembered as the dawn of a new champion.
