Uganda Prisons Netball Club captain Christine Namulumba Kango has once again underlined her elite pedigree, clinching the Fortebet Real Stars Netball Player of the Month award for May after a string of commanding performances on both domestic and regional fronts.
The accolade, presented on Tuesday at Naijing Restaurant in Kampala, saw Namulumba edge out strong competition from KCCA’s Margaret Baagala and Police NC’s Joan Nantumbwe, reinforcing her status as one of Uganda’s most influential netball figures.
Her recognition comes on the back of a historic campaign in Nairobi, where she inspired Uganda Prisons to East Africa Netball Club Championship glory.
The side delivered a statement performance, defeating regional heavyweights National Insurance Corporation (NIC) Netball Club twice—first in the group stages and again in the final—to secure a long-awaited title and end years of continental frustration.
A composed and commanding presence on court, Namulumba’s leadership proved instrumental throughout the tournament, as Prisons combined tactical discipline with resilience to conquer the region.
Speaking after receiving the award, Namulumba attributed the milestone to collective effort and institutional support.
“I am very grateful for this milestone. I thank the Commissioner of Prisons, Canon Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, for granting us the opportunity to represent the country. Credit also goes to my teammates and coaches,” she noted.
This latest triumph marks her third Fortebet Real Stars accolade, adding to previous wins in December 2022 and April 2023—further cementing her legacy within Uganda’s netball landscape.
Elsewhere, midfielder Allan Okello of Young Africans SC claimed the football award ahead of SC Villa’s Charles Lwanga and Uganda U-17 captain Owen Mukisa.
Rising talent Alvin Muhirwa secured top honors in chess, while Olympic medalist Peruth Chemutai stood unchallenged in the athletics category.
