Moses Muhangi has been confirmed for a fourth consecutive term as President of the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF), a tenure that will see him lead the federation until 2030.
The announcement came during a well-attended electoral congress held on Sunday, 28th February 2026, at Ibamba Restaurant in Kamwokya, Kampala, where Muhangi was re-elected unopposed.
The chairperson of the Uganda Boxing Federation Electoral Committee, Paul Mukasa, officially declared Muhangi the duly elected president for the 2026-2030 term, confirming the continuity of his leadership.
“Pursuant to Article 13 of the Uganda Boxing Federation Constitution (2025) and Article 24.1 of the Uganda Boxing Federation Electoral Code (2025), I hereby declare Moses Muhangi as president, along with his entire executive, for the period 2026-2030,” Mukasa announced, as the delegates erupted in chants of victory.
Also present at the congress were James Kasumba, an administrator from the National Council of Sports (NCS), and Robert Jjagwe, an executive committee member of the Uganda Olympic Committee.
Kasumba, a long-time fan of boxing, expressed optimism about the future of the sport, particularly with plans to increase government funding.
He hinted that the National Council of Sports was working on developing regional arenas that would support multiple sports disciplines, including boxing.
“Boxing has brought Uganda numerous international accolades, and as NCS, we are committed to enhancing the sport’s infrastructure. Regional arenas are part of our broader initiative to foster talent across all sports,” Kasumba stated.
In his speech, Muhangi reiterated his commitment to advancing boxing in Uganda, particularly by lobbying for increased financial support from the government.
He also emphasized the importance of expanding the sport beyond the capital and ensuring that boxing competitions remain vibrant and accessible across the country.
“I will continue to advocate for increased funding for boxing, which deserves recognition for its success on the global stage. We will work tirelessly to promote boxing at all levels, including both amateur and professional,” Muhangi said.
A significant highlight of the congress was the reaffirmation of Muhangi’s entire executive committee, which was also re-elected unopposed.
The committee will remain in place for the 2026-2030 period, bringing stability and continuity to the federation.

The congress also confirmed the leadership of various regional and specialized associations within the federation.
Notably, the Ring-Side Association, Kitara Western Association, Northern Association, Eastern Association, Central Association, and Coaches Boxing Association all confirmed their executives.
Additionally, the Para-Boxing Association and Disciplinary and PRO-Boxing Commissions were also reconfirmed.

In the disciplinary arm of the federation, Gideon Kabanda was confirmed as Chairperson of the Disciplinary Commission, while Maureen Mulangira continues her role as Chairperson of the PRO-Boxing Commission.
With a renewed mandate, Muhangi and his executive team now face the challenge of advancing the sport to greater heights, both domestically and internationally, while addressing the critical need for more government support to maintain Uganda’s strong boxing tradition.
