With just a day to go before the 2026 presidential and parliamentary general elections, the boxing community has rallied behind Moses Muhangi, the Uganda Boxing Federation president, in his bid for Kampala Central Member of Parliament.
Muhangi, who has been at the helm of Ugandan boxing for eight years, has earned the respect and loyalty of the boxing fraternity for his efforts to promote the sport and empower young talents.

Addressing the media in Kamwokya, Muhangi warned that any attempts to tamper with his votes would be met with resistance from the boxing community.
“There are so many young boxing talents abandoned in the ghetto.
The spirit is underfunded and the only way their voice can be heard is by sending their own to parliament,” he said.
“So, this is not only my vote, but the boxers’ hope and any one who thinks that he or she will rig the boxers’ wish, do say I did not warn you.
We shall remain peaceful not until anyone tries to tamper with our vote”.

Muhangi’s campaign strategy includes deploying over 100 boxers per parish to safeguard his votes, with Kisenyi, Kamwokya, and Mengo identified as key areas.
His door-to-door approach has resonated with voters, who appreciate his commitment to listening to their concerns. “We have mobilized well through our door-to-door strategy. We knew this would work best for us against our opponents,” Muhangi said.
The boxing community’s support for Muhangi is also a snub to incumbent Minister Minsa Kabanda, who has struggled to connect with voters in the ghettos despite being a native of Kisenyi.
“It is not just voting for Muhangi, it is voting for our good days ahead and the boxing community will protect Muhangi’s vote at all cost,” said Boxing coach Twaibu Mayanja.
Muhangi’s opponents in the race include Lewis Lubongoya (National Unity Platform), Minsa Kabanda (National Resistance Movement), and Abraham Luzzi (Independent).
The outcome of the election is far from certain, but one thing is clear: the boxing community is throwing its weight behind Muhangi.
