Moses Muhangi, the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) President and independent Kampala Central MP aspirant, recently held talks with world-renowned boxers Deontay Wilder and Manny Pacquiao in Dubai, signaling a new era for Ugandan boxing.
The meeting, which focused on sharing ideas, potential visits, donations, and technical assistance, has sparked hope for the country’s boxing sector, currently on the path to recovery.
Currently, Manny Pacquiao is the face of International Boxing Association in the roles of an ambassador.
Muhangi, who is vying for the Kampala seat in the 2026 general elections, has centered his campaigns on community engagement, sports development, and youth digital empowerment.
His advocacy for investment in sports facilities, such as boxing gyms and netball courts, aligns with his vision for Uganda’s sporting future.
The UBF boss is optimistic about the meeting’s outcome, which he believes will bring much-needed expertise and resources to Ugandan boxing.
“The meeting proposed sharing of ideas, visits by the world boxers to Uganda, donations to Uganda boxing, and technical assistance,” sources revealed.
Muhangi’s parliamentary bid has garnered support from boxing coaches, boxers, and musicians, who are drawn to his commitment to sports development and youth empowerment.
He faces stiff competition from a field of notable opponents, including NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya and NRM’s Kampala Minister Minsa Kabanda.
As Uganda’s boxing sector looks to the future, Muhangi’s global connections and local advocacy position him as a key figure in shaping the country’s sporting landscape.
His pledge to champion government-supported digital hubs and provide youth with access to online work opportunities further underscores his commitment to empowering Kampala’s young population.
