Uganda has officially flagged off its delegation of 1582 student athletes to Kenya for the 22nd edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games.
This year’s edition is scheduled to take place from August 12th to 23rd in Kakamega, Kenya.
The flag-off ceremony was held at the National Council of Sports (NCS), presided over by Dr. Patrick Benard Ogwel, General Secretary of the NCS.
Dr. Ogwel reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sports development, emphasizing the importance of discipline and a clear team strategy.
“The government is prioritizing sports infrastructure to standardize Uganda’s sports,” he said.
“The secret to success is discipline – we must have a clear team strategy. I challenge the team to aim for the highest level of competition.”
The Ugandan contingent comprises 1582 athletes from 66 secondary schools and 11 primary schools, including three Special Needs Education Schools (SNES).
These schools will field a total of 124 teams to compete across 22 disciplines. This year’s edition marks the debut of chess and scrabble, while lacrosse, beach soccer, cricket, and dance sport will feature as demonstration sports.
Uganda is the overall defending champion, having won the last edition in Bukedea, Uganda.
Since the 2018 edition, Uganda has won the overall trophy and will look to win their sixth title in a row.
With their strong contingent and determination, Uganda’s student athletes are set to make a strong impression at the FEASSA Games.
