The stage is set for a thrilling repeat of last year’s final match-up in the girls’ basketball competition at the 2025 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Wakiso District Qualifiers.

Defending champions St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana will face off against last year’s finalists St. Mary’s Kitende in an eagerly anticipated Entebbe Road/Wakiso derby.

St. Mary’s Kitende secured a hard-fought 20-17 semi-final victory over newbies Zana Mixed Secondary School to reach the final.

In the quarter-finals, Kitende had eliminated neighbours Elite High School with a convincing 36-18 win.

Meanwhile, holders St. Noa made light work of Kisubi Mapeera, winning 43-10 in the quarter-finals, before beating Buddo SS 34-24 in the semi-finals to set up a final tie with rivals St. Mary’s Kitende.

This match-up is a repeat of last year’s final, where St. Noa emerged victorious with a 67-49 win, claiming their second Wakiso District title after first winning in 2019.

Resty Nanangwe, still a member of the St. Noa squad, shone in last year’s final, posting 26 points and 9 rebounds.

Zoe Atek, who has since left the school, was the best rebounder with 12 rebounds and scored 9 points for St. Noa.

In contrast, St. Mary’s Kitende will be looking to avenge their loss, without former players Najjuuko Josephine and Mariam Namukwaya having played key roles in their previous encounters.

The two teams have a rich history, with Kitende defying all odds to beat St. Noa 31-28 in the National championship final in Ndejje, and St. Noa winning 20-15 in a 3X3 2024 FEASSA semi-final tie.

In the boys’ competition, Mbogo Mixed Schools stormed into the final with a 28-20 win over Maryland in the semi-finals.

The other semi-final between Buddo SS and Elite High School was abandoned due to darkness and will be replayed on the final day.

The finals will take place on Saturday, April 12th, at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso, promising an exciting conclusion to the Wakiso District Qualifiers.
