In a shocking turn of events, Uganda Premier League side Mbale Heroes were eliminated from the 2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 64 stage.

The Mbale side suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Buganda Regional League side Simba (Uganda Wild Authority) at the Namulonge Ground in Gayaza on Sunday evening.

The match was a closely contested affair, with Katumba Edgar putting Mbale Heroes ahead in the 20th minute.

However, Oyet Patrick leveled the score for Simba just five minutes before halftime.

The visitors regained the lead three minutes into the second half, courtesy of Katumba’s second goal.

Nevertheless, Simba’s Kayemba Umar equalized once again, setting the stage for a thrilling finale.

In the end, it was Kenneth Ssebaduka who scored the decisive goal, putting Simba ahead in the 64th minute and securing a 3-2 victory for the hosts.

This result marked a significant upset, as Mbale Heroes became the first Uganda Premier League side to be knocked out of the competition.

In contrast, several other Uganda Premier League teams successfully booked their slots in the Round of 32.

These teams include holders Kitara FC, runners-up NEC FC, Mbarara City, Police FC, Maroons, UPDF, Lugazi, Wakiso Giants, Vipers SC, Bright Stars, and URA FC.

Additionally, new teams such as Simba (UWA), CATDA, Bushenyi Veterans, Blacks Power, and Pakwach Young Stars have also advanced to the next round.
