The Uganda Cricket Cranes have today, Thursday 9th October been flagged off to Namibia for T20 World Cup qualifier Africa finals.

The flag off was held at National Council of Sports (NCS) headquarters in Lugogo Kampala.

While addressing the media during the flag off, interim head coach Jackson Ogwang said;

“The team is ready to make Uganda proud. For the last three years we have been preparing for this event and we are certain we finally have something to give.

The focus might be getting one over from either Zimbabwe or Namibia but as a team every game is important and therefore the intensity we play with against Zimbabwe is the same intensity we bring against Rwanda.

We aim to take care of our business and fate will decide the rest .

If we play out our potential, we shall be at the World Cup”. Jackson Ogwang.

The T20 World Cup qualifiers Africa finals will bring together seven (7) countries including the host Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria and Kenya.

The tournament is set to run from November 20th to 30th. The top two sides at the end of a round robin format will qualify to the 20 team World Cup tournament set for USA and West Indies in 2024.

The team will first have a 10 day training tour in Zimbabwe. They will play six T20 games against Takashinga Cricket Club who are the National league champions in Zimbabwe.

Finally the Cricket Cranes contingent will touch base in Namibia on November 20th ahead of their opener against Tanzania on November 22nd.
