A significant milestone was achieved in Ugandan boxing with the certification of 30 professional boxing ring officials under the World Boxing Council (WBC) and African Boxing Union (ABU) framework.

The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) organized an intensive three-day workshop at Club Obligato in Kampala, from April 24 to 26, 2025, which culminated in the officials receiving their certification.

The training, led by ABU/WBC instructor John Chagga, was part of UBF’s broader initiative to professionalize boxing in Uganda.

The Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hon. Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, graced the event, commending UBF’s commitment to improving human resources and professionalizing the sport.

UBF President Moses Muhangi congratulated the newly certified officials, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in every bout they officiate.

“This certification marks a turning point. We must always prioritize integrity and professionalism in every bout officiated under our federation,” Muhangi stressed.

The African Boxing Union (ABU), affiliated with the WBC, is the premier governing body for professional boxing in Africa, dedicated to elevating African boxing to global standards.

This milestone marks a new era for professional boxing in Uganda, ensuring that future competitions are judged and officiated with global standards of fairness, competence, and professionalism.
