Senegal 2 – 0 Guinea

Africa Cup of Nations

On a hot evening in Cote D’vore where the African Cup Of Nations is being played, holders Senegal beat Guinea 2-0 to seal round of 16 slot.

The Aliou Cisse coached Senegal through Abdoulaye Seck headed the Teranga Lions in front from a free-kick in the 13th minute connecting onto Krepin Diatta’s delivery.

In the 90th minute, Sadio Mane assisted Iliman Ndiaye to seal the victory with a fine low finish in the final minute of the game.

Senegal advanced from the group stage as the only side with a 100% winning record. The Tarenga Lions won all their three group C games to accumulate nine points.

In their first two encounters, they convincingly beat The Gambia and Cameroon before a 2-0 win against Guinea.

Aliou Cisse’s side face third-placed side from Group A or F in the last 16 on Monday, in the same city Yamoussoukro.

Guinea will play Group A winners Equatorial Guinea on Sunday in Abidjan.

Guinea stormed the knockout stage as one of the four best third placed side after Cameroon beat The Gambia 3-2.

Senegal is on track to become the first Nation to retain the Afcon trophy since Egypt won their third in a row in 2010, while Guinea will aim to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2015.
