Vipers SC finally registered their first victory of the season with a convincing 3-0 triumph over league debutants Ntugasaze at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Saturday.
The champions, who had suffered a 1-0 defeat to Entebbe UPPC in their opening match, produced a much-improved performance to ease past the newcomers and revive their campaign.
Gusto Mulongo set Vipers on their way in the 27th minute, rising highest to head home Karim Watambala’s corner and give the hosts a deserved lead.
Ntugasaze had opportunities to restore parity, but failed to capitalise on their chances as Vipers maintained their advantage into the interval.
The hosts effectively put the contest beyond the visitors in the 60th minute when Chukwuma Odili unleashed a superb strike after being picked out by substitute Farouk Miya with a perfectly weighted long pass.
Vipers needed only three more minutes to add a third. Ceaser Manzoki finished from close range after Usama Arafat delivered the cutback, with Miya again influential in the build-up.
The victory provides welcome relief for Denis Lavagne’s side and lifts Vipers to 11th place, while Ntugasaze remain at the foot of the table without a point after four matches.
