Defending champions Vipers SC have begun their title defense with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Northern Gateway in Lira, securing a spot in the last 32 of the Uganda Cup.

Chukwuma Chukwurah’s stunning goal in the 38th minute proved the difference, as the Venoms held on to claim bragging rights away from home.

Vipers head coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert fielded a strong starting lineup, indicating his determination to win.

Despite playing on a dusty ground and under scorching temperatures, the visitors showed resilience, especially after Hillary Mukundane’s injury in the 19th minute.

Other notable results include Mbarara City’s 2-1 win over Busia Youngstars, KCCA’s 2-0 victory over St George Masindi, and BUL’s 7-0 thrashing of Agape United.
