The VEK Legends football gala, featuring former players from Sports Club Villa, Express, and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), is set to take place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Mutesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

Organized by Farouk Meywa, the event aims to unite football legends and inspire the upcoming young generation.

The gala will bring together VEK superstars from the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s, including Robert Mukiibi, Jackson Mayanja, Edgar Watson, Hassan Figo Mubiru, George Ssimwogerere among others.

“It will be a great day to reflect on old memories and link up with old friends,” Mukiibi said, expressing gratitude to Meywa for organizing the event.

The four teams, including the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) as a guest team, will compete in a three-phase round-robin league to determine the winner.

Each team will play at least three matches, with the champions set to win UGX 4,000,000. The second and third-placed teams will receive UGX 3,000,000 and UGX 2,000,000, respectively, while the 4th takes 1,000,000.

The winning team will receive gold medals, while the second and third-placed teams will be awarded silver and bronze medals. Every participating team will also receive a set of brand new jerseys and balls.

In addition to the football matches, the event will feature other fun games and surprise artists. Gates will open at 8 am, and action will continue uninterrupted until late evening.

USPA Assistant Organizing Secretary Francisco Bwambale

USPA assistant organizing secretary Francisco Bwambale expressed enthusiasm about participating in the gala, describing it as a “memorable experience” that celebrates the legends of Ugandan football.

Meywa emphasized the event’s purpose: “to celebrate football history, reconnect, share memories, and inspire the upcoming young football generation”.
