USSSA Ball Games I 2025 Kicks Off with Fanfare in Bukedea

The 2025 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games I officially kicked off today at Bukedea Comprehensive Stadium in Bukedea District, Eastern Uganda.

The ceremony was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Bro. Dr. Augustine Mugabo, representing the Guest of Honor, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among.

Also in attendance were the Commissioner of Physical Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports, Rev. Canon Duncan Mugumya, USSSA President Justus Mugisha, and Bukedea Comprehensive School Managing Director Jonas Gumisirize.

In his address, the Chief Guest thanked the government for its significant investment in sports.

Bro. Dr. Mugabo promised to convey USSSA’s funding requests to the Speaker of Parliament, while Rev. Canon Mugumya commended the government’s financial support for sports, noting that it has led to improvements in the games.

USSSA President Justus Mugisha highlighted the increasing number of participants, stating that the organization is achieving its goal of providing every student with an opportunity to participate in sports.

“We have the highest number of participants so far, thus fulfilling our dream of giving every student a chance to participate in sports all the way from district to national level.”

Meanwhile, Bukedea Comprehensive School Managing Director Jonas Gumisirize assured that the school would make the championship the best for the kids, announcing that the swimming pool would be free for use starting Thursday.

The opening ceremony was accompanied by an exciting girls’ football match between Bukedea Comprehensive School and Gulu High School, which Bukedea won 2-0. Nassozi Shanita and Nanyonjo Jaridah scored the goals for Bukedea.

Other results from the day’s matches include Tororo Girls School’s 3-2 win over Acaba SS, Nkoma SS’s 4-0 victory over Kasheshero Girls Secondary School, and King of Kings SS’s 1-0 win over Bishop Comboni College.
