The 2024 Africa Boxing Union (ABU) convention has today 1st August launched at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

The convention will attract all professional boxing national bodies from across the continent.

The five day events will run from 18th – 23rd August 2024. Series of activities ranging from ring officials; agents and promoters’ seminar and a long list of bouts at the climax.

The two day promoters and agents seminar will run from 20th to 22nd. The weigh in for the fights will be held on 22nd before the box off on 23rd .

World Boxing Council (WBC) and ABU will provide technical facilitators to handle technical issues in the area of Agents and promoters’ seminar.

Onto the long list of fights, the main fight will be between Uganda’s Super Middleweight pugilist John Sserunjogi and Egyptian Ahmed Borishe.

There shall also be a regional Super Welterweight title contest for East and Central Africa between Uganda’s National champion Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Jr. and an opponent yet to be identified.

On the same day, Joshua Nyanzi (Spyder) will battle Power Jjunju in a welterweight bout.

While addressing the media during the launch, Uganda Professional Boxing Commission president Salim Uhuru Nsubuga highlighted the importance of the convention to Uganda.

“The convention will shall see Uganda’s tourism will boost and there shall be a boom in business.

The convention has come along with Continental title fights where our boxers have a chance to write their names in books.

This is the 3rd time Uganda is hosting the convention and each time we have scored high in terms of economic boom”. President Uganda Professional Boxing Commission Salim Uhuru Nsubuga.

The attendees will pay a tune of 50 dollars and 75 dollars for ring officials training/seminar.

The government of Uganda, Hardware World, St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School – Kitend, ministry of tourism among others are the sponsors for this Continental event.
