As the second season of the Uganda Boxing Champions League  is set to climax on Tuesday 26th December 2023 at the UMA show grounds in Kampala, Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) unveiled belts to be awarded to each category weight winners.

For the first time in history, boxers will win belts as UBF gradually changes the face of boxing from amateur to semi-professional.

The belts were unveiled by the President of the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF), Moses Muhangi at the Cooper Chimney restaurant in Lugogo,

“Introducing belts is the most prestigious local boxing award to motivate our boxers.

As we look towards building serious professional boxer through this amateur stage, we need to assimilate what we admire and narrow the gap for differences”. Muhangi.

Costing about USD 1,000 each, thes belts will be given out to 13 weight category champions for males and 12 weight category champions for females.

Muhangi further added, “We are pleased to announce our growth and this reflects in the numbers that attend from the empty arenas in season one.

This time we thought of having a venue that can accommodate the number of people that have consistently attended boxing this year and I’m confident UMA show grounds is a better choice given its ample parking space.”

With over 30 bouts lined up for the day, this year’s finals are anticipated to create memorable scenes given a huge improvement in the technical, refereeing and boxers’ quality over the period.

Without doubt, the Uganda Boxing Champions League is the best innovation of the decade in Uganda’s sports sector.
