Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed Botswana as the next opponent for Uganda’s U20 Women’s national Football team in the third round of the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
The development came through from CAF on Thursday, October 14 2021 as the national team continues it’s preps.

The first leg of the tie between Uganda and Botswana will be played between December 2nd and 4th this year before the return leg a week later.
Uganda eliminated regional giants and arch rivals Kenya 10-3 on aggregate in the second round, whilst, Botswana, beat Angola 8-1 on aggregate to storm this round.
Since August this year, only 16 teams out of the 40 are still in the contention for the two slots.
Two best teams will represent Africa at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup set to kick off on 10th to 28th August 2022 in Costa Rica.
Only 16 teams from six FIFA member confederations are expected to feature at the 10th edition of the biennial international women’s youth football championship which was inaugurated in 2002.
Since it’s first edition, only four countries have won this championship after nine events.
Germany (2004, 2010 and 2014) and USA in 2002, 2008 and 2012 have won this championship 3 times to become the most successful nations.

Korea follows in the ranks with two in 2006 and 2016 whilst defending champions Japan won the last edition in 2018.
Nigeria is Africa’s best performing nation in the championship having featured in four consecutive semi-finals in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014.
The West Africans (Nigeria) have also been in two finals in 2010 and 2014, losing both to European giants Germany.
