A new champion will be crowned in the 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Boys’ Football Championship after Amus College School and Bukedea Comprehensive School South powered their way into Tuesday’s final in Lira City.

The decisive showdown, slated for May 19, follows a dramatic semi-final day that encapsulated the raw essence of school football—intensity, resilience, heartbreak and unrelenting ambition.

Amus College School produced the performance of the tournament to eliminate giants St Mary’s Kitende in a tense penalty shootout after a goalless stalemate in normal time.

Reduced to ten men following Pius Oyirwoth’s dismissal for a second bookable offence, Amus displayed remarkable composure under pressure.

In the shootout, Mathias Kasadha, Ivan Okello, Roy Olara and skipper Iddi Abdul Rashid converted with precision, while Kitende faltered—only Moses Kalule found the net, as Marvin Kabiito struck the woodwork and goalkeeper Usama Chagama emerged the hero with a crucial save from Collins Ochatre.

The result sent shockwaves through the competition, ending Kitende’s title ambitions and underlining Amus’ growing stature on the national stage.

In the other semi-final, Bukedea Comprehensive School South continued their disciplined run with a narrow 1-0 victory over Kyadondo SS at Lira Town College Playground.

Patrick Ssenkusu’s decisive strike in the 55th minute proved the difference in a tightly contested encounter, sealing Bukedea’s place in the final.

Attention now turns to an intriguing final clash between Amus College School and Bukedea Comprehensive School South—two sides that have combined tactical discipline with mental fortitude throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, the bronze medal match will feature an all-Wakiso derby as St Mary’s Kitende face Kyadondo SS Matugga.

This year’s championship, which attracted 64 schools from across Uganda, will also see the unveiling of a brand-new trophy to be awarded to the eventual winners, adding further prestige to an already fiercely contested competition.
