At a glamorous event, team Uganda has been flagged off to Bukedea in Eastern part of the country for the 21st edition of the Federation of East African Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games.

The flag off was officiated by the State Minister for Sports Hon. Peter Owgang on Wednesday afternoon, the 14th August 2024 at Mandela National Stadium hall in Namboole.

1690 Uganda students will participate at this year’s edition. This becomes the largest contingent by a single country in the FEASSA Games.

Saidi Musa Kati of Kibuli SS and Amirah Bukenya (Nabisunsa Girls Secondary School) will captain the boys and girls team respectively.

This year’s FEASSA Games will be at Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School in Bukedea district of Teso sub-region.

Hon. Minister for Sports Peter Owgang emphasized discipline and hard work as the only way Uganda will gain in these young athletes in future.

Before sports was regarded as a leisure practice, but, today it’s source of livelihood.

But to survive and succeed in these games, you must be disciplined and hardworking.

We are here to build athletes for future, the future global stars. That’s I will stand my ground and say school competitions are strictly to rightful students in the right age.

Teams from across the East African region will report this Friday the 16th at Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School.

Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania are the countries to be represented at this year’s edition.

Uganda was the champion of last event when they successfully defended the overall crown with an impressive performance in the 10-days’ championship hosted in Huye and Gisagara districts in Southern province of Rwanda.

However, Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) president Justus Mugisha anticipates tight competition for overall trophy

“It’s going to be tight. We shall win but narrowly. Kenya has done good home work and we have to be too serious taking each game as a final”. USSSA President Justus Mugisha.

In total, Uganda managed a total of 37 medals; of these 17 were gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze.

Kenya followed suit with 23 medals in total; 8 gold and silver apiece as well as 7 bronze.

Hosts Rwanda followed suit with 12 medals; 4 silver and 8 bronze whilst Tanzania returned home with three medals (2 silver and 1 bronze).

Uganda dominated Swimming (boys and girls), Table Tennis (boys and girls), Soccer (boys and girls), Badminton (boys and girls), basketball for 3X3 and 5×5 per gender, Handball (boys and girls), Netball, Rugby 15’s and Hockey (boys).
