NEC’s love affair with Mbale Stadium continued on Friday, January 10, 2025, as they thrashed third-division side UCU 4-0 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 64.

This victory marks their fifth consecutive win at the venue.

The Hussein Mbalangu-coached side showcased their dominance, scoring three unanswered goals in the first half.

Emmanuel Ajo opened the scoring in the 27th minute, followed by James Jarieko and Allan Mugalu in the 44th and 45th minutes, respectively.

Dickson Mugalu sealed the deal in the 87th minute.

This impressive win is a testament to NEC’s current form, which sees them sitting second in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) with 33 points from 15 games, just one point behind leaders Vipers.

Their impressive run at Mbale Stadium, where they have won all four games, has earned them the nickname “Die Hards.”

NEC’s journey in the Uganda Cup has begun on a high note, and they will be looking to replicate their last season’s impressive form in the competition.

Last season, they reached the final of the League Cup but narrowly lost 1-0 to Kitara.

In other games, Pakwach YS secured a 3-0 win over Kigezi HomeBoyz.
