Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football Club became the first side to seal passage into the Round of 16 after grinding out a disciplined 1–0 victory over Mbarara City at the MTN Omondi Stadium Lugogo on Sunday evening.

The contest was tight and fiercely contested, but it turned on a single moment of inspiration just before the interval.

Captain Fillbert Obenchan rose majestically to meet Ashraf Mugume’s expertly delivered free-kick, directing a diving header beyond the reach of the goalkeeper to hand the hosts a precious advantage.

After the restart, KCCA prioritised composure over flamboyance. Their backline stood resolute, repelling wave after wave of determined advances from a spirited Mbarara City side.

A second goal briefly seemed certain when Bright Anukani found the net, only for celebrations to be cut short by an offside call against fellow substitute Emmanuel Anyama.

Despite late pressure, KCCA’s organisation and defensive discipline proved decisive, ensuring their slender lead endured to the final whistle
