KCCA FC reignited their Uganda Premier League title charge with a narrow but vital 1–0 victory over Kitara FC under the floodlights at Lugogo on Friday evening.
The decisive moment arrived just before halftime, when Joel Sserunjogi capitalized on a midfield lapse to fire home what proved to be the match-winning goal.
His clinical finish not only settled a tightly contested encounter but also propelled the Kasasiro Boys up to second place on the table.
Coming into the fixture on the back of a setback against SC Villa, KCCA showed renewed discipline and purpose.
The first half was largely cautious, with both sides limiting risks, but a single mistake proved costly for the visitors.
Living Kabon was dispossessed in the 44th minute, allowing Saidi Mayanja to react swiftly and tee up Sserunjogi, who made no mistake from close range.
Kitara emerged from the break with urgency, pressing forward in search of an equaliser.
Their best chance came in the 76th minute when Jasper Aheebwa rattled the crossbar, leaving KCCA momentarily exposed but ultimately unpunished.
The hosts nearly doubled their lead shortly after, with Mayanja testing goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige following a quick attacking move.
However, the slender advantage remained intact as KCCA held firm through late pressure to secure all three points.
The result sees KCCA climb to 48 points, just four behind league leaders Vipers SC, while Kitara slip to third with 47 points, tightening the race at the top.
With their Uganda Cup journey already concluded, KCCA’s attention now turns fully to the league as they seek consistency in the closing stages of the season.
They next face Entebbe UPPC away on April 21, while Kitara will look to bounce back when they host Calvary a day later.
