Reigning Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa edged closer to a potential double, defeating Simba FC 1-0 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 32 at Namulonge Grounds.

The Jogoos’ victory was sealed by Aslam Ssemakula’s clinical finish just five minutes into the second half.

Simba FC, fresh from their stunning elimination of Mbale Heroes, put up a spirited fight, frustrating SC Villa in the first half. However, the breakthrough came when new signing Ashraf Mulindi delivered a pinpoint long ball into the box, finding an unmarked Ssemakula.

The striker showcased impeccable control and precision, slotting the ball past the helpless Simba goalkeeper.

SC Villa had opportunities to extend their lead, with substitute Sula Matovu’s effort rippling the side netting after a brilliant assist from Patrick Jonah Kakande.

Despite their valiant effort, Simba FC lacked the finishing touch, bringing their fairytale run to an end.

In other Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 32 matches, Total FC eliminated Express FC, while Rwenzori FC edged out Buhimba Saints on penalties (4-3) after a goalless draw in normal time.

The Uganda Cup drama continues on Thursday with three thrilling matchups, featuring Kitara FC vs CATDA, Kaaro Karungi vs Busia Young, and Vipers SC vs. Mbarara City under the floodlights at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
