Rugby: Nile Breweries renews sponsorship of URU premiership with 10% increment

The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) and Nile Breweries Limited have announced the renewal of the URU premiership sponsorship deal, with a 10% increment from the previous contract.

The partnership, which has been in place for 16 years, was announced at a press conference held at the Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.

The Uganda Rugby Premiership (both men and women) has already kicked off with unparalleled energy and Nile Special takes great pride in maintaining its position as the title sponsor of this premier competition.

Beyond the Premiership, Nile Special’s support will continue with the other key properties on Uganda’s rugby calendar, including: the National Men’s and Women’s 7s, Regional 7s, Uganda Cup (Men and Women), University League, Annual Rugby Dinner among others.

Through these partnerships, Nile Special continues to elevate the sport, inspire excellence, and build a strong sense of community among players, fans, and stakeholders alike.

URU President Godwin Kayangwe Arinaitwe expressed his gratitude to Nile Breweries for their continued support. “We appreciate the clubs, players, fans, and the media. To our partner Nile Special, 16 years is no mean feat. We prioritize the clubs who are the biggest beneficiary from this deal, and we promise to work hand-in-hand with them.”

Adu Rando, Managing Director of Nile Breweries Limited, also expressed his excitement about the continued partnership.

“Nile Breweries is very excited to continue with the partnership of sponsoring Rugby in Uganda. We are excited about the continued sponsorship of the Nile Special Rugby premiership in Uganda with a 10% increment.”

The financial details of the contract were not disclosed, but it was revealed that the previous contract was worth an approximate of UGX.  900 millio

The new contract will cover the men and female national leagues for a one-year duration.

The partnership for other several franchises, including the Rugby Africa 7’s, Rugby Cranes 15’s, national 7’s league, women 7’s, national 7’s team, local regional 7’s, Uganda Cup (men and women), University league, and the annual dinner are also still having valid sponsorship from Nile.

With the renewed partnership, the URU and Nile Breweries Limited are committed to promoting and developing rugby in Uganda.

As stated in a press release, “Through these partnerships, Nile Special continues to elevate the sport, inspire excellence, and build a strong sense of community among players, fans, and stakeholders alike.”
