Uganda’s leading poultry company, Kukuchic Uganda Limited, has marked the countdown to its 12th anniversary by extending support to Sanyu Babies’ Home in Kampala.

The company, in partnership with NK Marketing Agency, donated a package of essential food and household supplies to the children’s home on Friday, September 4, 2026.

The donation included rice, sugar, cooking oil, bread, eggs and washing soap, among other necessities used daily at the facility.

Receiving the items on behalf of Sanyu Babies’ Home, Jessica Namulinde thanked Kukuchic for responding to the needs of the children and staff.

“On behalf of Sanyu Babies’ Home, we are humbled by this generous package. These are items we use daily in executing our voluntary obligations.”

Namulinde noted that the home, which can accommodate up to 50 children at a time, consumes large quantities of food and other essentials on a daily basis.

“This package will help us not only in feeding our children and staff, but also in ensuring a balanced diet.”

She appealed to more corporate organisations and individuals to support the home, noting that financial assistance is equally important, particularly in meeting the costs of medication, electricity and water.

“The need is always there. I call upon other corporate companies and individuals to mirror Kukuchic and lend a hand to Sanyu Babies’ Home.

Besides items, cash support is also welcome.”

Kukuchic leader of delegation Dr Livingston Kayondo said the donation was part of the company’s longstanding commitment to giving back to the community, but carried particular significance as the business approaches its 12th anniversary.

“We have always given back to the community, but this year, we wanted to celebrate our 12th anniversary with Sanyu Babies’ Home.”

Kayondo revealed that Kukuchic had previously encountered an abandoned baby at its premises who was subsequently taken to Sanyu Babies’ Home, strengthening the company’s connection with the institution.

“Sanyu being our neighbours, we decided to give back in appreciation of the work they do.”

He commended the home for its care of vulnerable children and urged other companies to support the cause.

“The number of needy children here is high, and giving back changes a life. I am delighted with Sanyu Babies’ Home.

Every child here looks healthy, and that means they are in good hands.”

NK Marketing Agency CEO Uthman Kateregga, who also attended the event, called for greater corporate involvement in community initiatives.

He said corporate social responsibility should be treated as an obligation rather than merely an act of goodwill, while urging companies to ensure that resources set aside for community support reach beneficiaries.

“What I have realised here is that a lot of resources are consumed daily.

There is too much need, and we call on other corporate bodies to join this cause.”

Established in 1929 by missionary midwife Milnes Winifred Walker, Sanyu Babies’ Home is Uganda’s oldest babies’ home.

It cares for children from one day to four years old who have been abandoned, orphaned or abused.

The home, whose vision is to see all children in Uganda living happily in loving families, often operates close to its 50-child capacity.

Kukuchic operates four breeder farms, a modern hatchery and a feed mill in Nakaseke District.

With a capacity of about 170,000 parent birds, the company dispatches more than 250,000 day-old chicks every week, alongside its animal feed business.
