Uganda’s U17 Women’s National Team delivered a commanding performance to defeat hosts Tanzania 3-0 and lift the CECAFA U17 Women’s Championship title on Tuesday at KMC Stadium.

Brenda Nassaka, Justine Ayerango, and Flavia Yagala were all on the scoresheet as the Teen Cranes overwhelmed Tanzania with a clinical display, sealing victory in style and underlining their superiority in the region.

The triumph crowns an exceptional campaign for coach Sheryl Botes’ side, who finished the tournament unbeaten without conceding a single goal.

Uganda registered an astonishing 26 goals across the competition, highlighting both their attacking firepower and defensive solidity.

The Teen Cranes’ route to the title was emphatic from start to finish. They opened with a 13-0 demolition of Djibouti, followed by a 3-0 win over Zanzibar and a 4-0 victory against South Sudan in the group stage.

In the semifinals, they dispatched Kenya 3-0 to set up the final showdown with Tanzania.

This victory sees Uganda successfully defend the title they last won in 2019 under coach Ayub Khalifah Kiyingi, reaffirming their dominance in the CECAFA region at youth level.

For head coach Sheryl Botes, the win marks a significant milestone—her first trophy with any of Uganda’s women’s national teams.

The South African tactician adds this title to previous podium finishes, including bronze medals with the Queens Cranes at the 2023 African Games and the Crested Cranes at the 2025 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship.

Uganda Starting XI:

Mayimuna Namuwaya (GK), Phiona Arach, Jovia Nakirya, Martha Babirye, Vicky Atyeronimungu, Lydia Nameseruka, Brenda Nassaka, Flavia Yagala, Shadia Nabirye, Justine Ayerango, Immaculate Acen.
