The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) boxing team’s outstanding performance at the 2nd Africa Military Games in Abuja, Nigeria has brought smile of hope to many Ugandan Boxing enthusiasts.

After their (UPDF) sizeable success at the Africa Military Games which started on November 18th and are set to conclude on 30th November 2024, Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) president Moses Muhangi has attributed this success the famous Boxing Champions League.

“This is a pure testament to the strength and popularity of the our Uganda Boxing Champions League visionary concept.

Most of these athletes are products of the Champions League initiative.

The success reflects the immense talent and dedication that exists within Uganda.” UBF president Moses Muhangi

Muhangi further noted that the Champions League, nurtures and gives exposure to the best of Ugandan boxing talent.

“The Boxing Champions League nurtures and exposes the best talent in the land and has been instrumental in preparing athletes for high-level competitions.

This league is a cornerstone of UBF’s efforts to revive boxing and raise its profile both locally and internationally”. He added.

UPDF secured four (4) Gold and two Silver to finish in third position overall.

However, Kenya Defence Forces who presented only five boxers looked more clinical than UPDF when the won four (4) Gold and a Silver to finish 4th with just a silver medal less.

Meanwhile, Tanzania ranked 10th with 2 bronze medals.

The big-hitting Ugandan female boxer Erina Namutebi who made her international debut in Yaounde in 2021 won a Gold.

The others were light-flyweight Ochan Geoffrey, featherweight Joyce Kugonza and light-welterweight Innocent Amoko.

The two silver medals were won by Bantamweight Japyem James and cruiserweight pugilist Jamidali Adam.

These games will climax on Saturday, the 30th November. Abuja, Nigeria was this year’s host city.
