History has been rewritten in the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Wakiso District boys’ football championship, as the long-standing final between fierce rivals Buddo Secondary School and St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School – Kitende will not materialize this year.
For over a decade, the Wakiso final has been defined by the Buddo–Kitende rivalry.
However, Kyadondo Secondary School disrupted that narrative with a commanding semi-final performance, eliminating Buddo SS to book a historic first-ever appearance in the final.
The tournament, held at Mwererwe in Matugga from Wednesday, April 8 to Sunday, April 12, has now reached its climax.
St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School – Kitende will face a new challenger, Kyadondo SS, in the 2026 final slated for Tuesday, April 14 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
Kyadondo progressed after a tense semi-final that ended goalless in normal time before they triumphed 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
Goalkeeper Ashiraf Lukyamuzi proved decisive, saving the opening two penalties taken by Ibrahim Wayita and Aaron Zangi Okello.
Bashir Edema, Danstan Wasswa, Refael Masuudi, and Thomas Ogema converted their spot-kicks for Kyadondo, while Joseph Kakooza missed his attempt.
For Buddo, Abdul Shakur Babi and Ronald Ssegirinya found the net, but Zangi Okello and Ibrahim Wayita failed to convert, sealing their team’s exit.

In the other semi-final, St. Mary’s Kitende underlined their dominance with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Aiden College Ndejje to reach a remarkable 10th consecutive final since 2015—excluding the COVID-19 affected years of 2020 and 2021.
Jordan Tugume starred with two superb direct free-kick goals in the second half, while Denis Kisiriko added a third with a simple tap-in to complete the victory and send Kitende back to yet another final.
The championship will conclude on Tuesday, April 14, with the final preceded by a third-place playoff between Aiden College Ndejje and Buddo SS at the same venue.
Meanwhile, six schools have already secured qualification to represent Wakiso at the national finals scheduled for May 10–19 in Lira at Lira Town College.
These include St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School – Kitende, Kyadondo SS, Buddo SS, Aiden College Ndejje, Greenlight Islamic Secondary School – Nansana, and Madina Islamic.
