In a thrilling encounter, FUFA Big League side Kataka FC eliminated Uganda Premier League outfit URA FC from the Stanbic Uganda Cup, winning 5-3 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw at full-time.

The victory propelled Kataka FC into the tournament’s quarterfinals, marking a significant upset.

The match witnessed a dramatic turn of events as Abraham Tusubira broke the deadlock in the 81st minute with a well-converted penalty.

However, Rahman Maloba equalized for Kataka just two minutes later, sending the contest into a post-match shootout.

Kataka FC goalkeeper Ronald Nsubuga emerged as the hero, saving Joshua Lubwama’s penalty to inspire a 5-3 win for his side.

Emmanuel Kulanga, Mohammed Biafulo, Stephen Namaisi, Richard Lempani, and Saul Bugoma all scored their penalties for the Mbale-based club, while Olimi Nyarwa, Tusubira, and Emmanuel Oketch scored for URA FC.

This defeat marks another trophy-less season for URA FC, with their last silverware dating back to 2014.

Meanwhile, UPDF FC suffered a similar fate, losing 3-0 to Big League side Kaaro Karungi in Ntungamo, becoming another Uganda Premier League side to be eliminated from the competition.
