The first African captain to lead an African nation to the quarter finals of the World Cup Stephen Tataw is dead at the age of 57.
Stephen Tataw is remembered for his spirited fight in Cameroon’s 1-0 opening group stage game of the famous Italia 1990 World Cup against holders Argentina.
The death news of 1990 and 1994 World Cup Indomitable Lions captain Stephen Tataw who passed on in Yaounde after a lengthy illness have made rounds on different social media platforms this evening.
Tataw became the first African player in 1995 to play professional football in Japan when he signed for Tosu Future till 1997 when he retired.
The ex Tonerre Yaounde and Olympic Mvolye center back is memorably remembered skippering Cameroon in the 1990 World Cup heroically defeating defending champions Argentina (1-0) in the opening fixture of the group via a Francois Omam Biyik finish.
His burial program is to be communicated later on.
