Brig. General Flavia Byekwaso has today, the 9th October 2024 announced withdrawal of her presidential candidature intentions from the forthcoming Netball Uganda elections citing transparency and governance irregularities.

The announcement was made during a press briefing Byekwaso held at Old.

It’s a difficult decision but necessary due to the bias, procedural impropriety, and glaring irregularities in the election process”. Byekwaso.

Byekwaso pointed at management and accountability issues that date back to April 2023 to the current Normalization Committee under Moses Mwase as chairman.

It should be remembered that the Ministry of Education and sports instructed the National Council of Sports (NCS) to withdraw the UNF’s Certificate of Recognition if its leadership did not adhere to restructuring guidelines.

Consequently, the NCS revoked the certificate, though it did not formally dissolve the federation.

To manage the federation’s day-to-day operations and prepare for upcoming elections, a normalization committee, endorsed by World Netball was appointed under the stewardship of Moses Mwase.

An angry and bitter Byekwaso had no sweet words to Moses Mwase’s committee which she points at for overstepping its mandate.

Byekwaso states that the Mwase and his committee have contributed to further confusion within the organization.

“I have found it safer to stay away from this unending sorrow, mismanagement and incompetence by the Netball Normalization Committee that continues to unfold.

“In good faith and sportsmanship heart as a dedicated lover and promoter of the netball, I have always put the needs of the sport before my own,” Byekwaso.

By the roadmap released by the Normalization committee, Netball Uganda will go to polls on Saturday, the 26th October 2024.

This follows a Special General Assembly that approved the new constitution amidst controversies where many internal and external stakeholders were locked out.
