Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has reportedly affirmed his decision to play for Ghana after a meeting with the leading contender to replace Milovan Rajevac as the Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton.
The 63-year-old held a meeting with Hudson-Odoi and his father Bismark Odoi who’s a Ghanaian at Labadi Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.
Hudson-Odoi has been convinced by the project of the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager for Ghana and has decided to switch allegiance.
The youngster is currently on holiday with his family in Ghana and has received a warm welcome from Ghanaians.
The 21-year-old winger has represented England three times at senior level but is eligible for a nationality switch because all three appearances came before his 21st birthday and none came at a major tournament.
Back in October, England manager Gareth Southgate held talks with the winger to convince him to continue his career with England.
However, despite his increase in game time at Chelsea, Hudson-Odoi has not been named in the England squad this season.
The 21-year-old also rejected a call-up to the England under-21 squad back in November and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel admitted they must respect his decision.
Hughton, the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager, is favorite to replace Milovan Rajevac as Ghana national team coach after the Serbian was sacked last week.
Ghana will battle out with Nigeria for a ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in March.
