Moses Muhangi, the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) president and aspiring Kampala Central MP, has officially picked his voter’s slip, signaling his readiness to contest in the 2026 general elections.

“I argue all Ugandans to pick their voter’s slip earlier like I have done. Today I have picked mine and I will cast my vote and I will vote from East Kololo Primary School,” Muhangi said, urging citizens to confirm their eligibility to participate in the forthcoming election.

Muhangi, a former national boxing champion turned sports administrator, declared his candidacy for the Kampala Central parliamentary seat earlier this year.

His nomination pits him against stiff competition, including National Unity Platform’s General Secretary Lewis Rubongoya and Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Districts Hajjat Minsa Kabanda.

A self-described reformist, Muhangi has made significant strides in Uganda’s sports scene since taking over the UBF in 2018.

Amateur boxers now earn allowances of up to Shs150,000 per bout, while referees and officials receive over Shs100,000 per event.

The federation has also transformed its infrastructure, introducing the Boxing Champions League to provide athletes with year-round competition.

Drawing inspiration from international boxing icons turned politicians, such as Manny Pacquiao and Vitali Klitschko, Muhangi plans to champion legislation ensuring equitable sports funding and improved infrastructure for Kampala’s inner-city communities if elected.

His campaign resonates with the youth and boxing enthusiasts, who have rallied behind his candidacy.
