The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) ushered in a new Executive Committee (EXCO) to steer the federation for the 2026–2030 term, following a successful 44th Elective General Assembly held at Front Page Hotel, Namasuba on Saturday.
The spotlight of the electoral exercise fell squarely on the fiercely contested 3rd Vice President race, where Celia Amanya emerged victorious with 70 votes, defeating Richard Muhumuza, who secured 40.
The contest was initially a three-horse race, but long-serving executive member Hajji Twahil Kiteezaala who served as Vice President in the outgoing committee stepped down prior to voting and threw his weight behind Amanya.
The elections, conducted by the USSSA Electoral Commission under the stewardship of Opio Joseph Ekodeu, alongside commissioners Barigye Richard and Wataba Hellen, marked the final phase of a structured electoral process that traversed district and zonal levels before culminating at the national assembly.
Out of 115 eligible voters, 113 delegates cast their ballots, with two absentees noted. A total of 95 delegates and 20 outgoing EXCO members were present during the assembly.
While most positions were filled unopposed, elections were held for three key slots: 3rd Vice President, and representatives for both the Northern and Western regions.
In the Northern Region category, Miriam Makeba, Bithola Ocukune, and Obura Moses secured seats on the Executive Committee.
The Western Region will be represented by Tindimwebwa Elizabeth, Kugonza Fred, and Monday Christopher.
Following his confirmation, USSSA President Justus Mugisha expressed gratitude for the continued trust bestowed upon him and reaffirmed his commitment to consolidating the federation’s progress.
“I am deeply honoured by the confidence you have once again placed in me.
Together with the incoming Executive Committee, we remain committed to advancing school sports, nurturing young talent, and ensuring that USSSA continues to provide opportunities that positively impact learners across the country,” Mugisha stated.
The newly elected leadership now assumes the mandate of driving USSSA’s strategic vision, with a renewed focus on strengthening structures and expanding opportunities within school sports nationwide.
