The 2025 Masaza Cup is set to kick off with a thrilling encounter between defending champions Buddu and record winners Gomba.

The two teams, pitted in the Bulange group alongside Buluuli, Busuju, Busiro, and Ssese, will face off in the opening match at Kitovu this afternoon.

Buddu’s New Chapter

Buddu, who lifted their third Masaza Cup title last year after edging Kyaggwe 1-0 in the final, are embarking on a fresh chapter under new head coach Erick Kisuze and captain Joseph Kayondo.

The team has undergone significant changes since their last triumph, with title-winning coach Simon Ddungu departing for Gomba and several key players leaving for new opportunities.

A positive start at home will be crucial in their bid to retain the crown.

Gomba’s Quest for Glory

Gomba, the tournament’s most successful team with five titles, are eager to bounce back after a disappointing 2024 campaign.

Determined to reclaim their glory, Gomba have made significant signings, including the appointment of former Buddu coach Simon Ddungu.

They’ve also strengthened their squad with experienced midfielder Michael Abura from Mawokota and last season’s top scorer Robert Ssewanyana, who joins from Buluuli.

A strong performance away from home against the defending champions could signal a serious return to title contention and reignite hope among their fans.

A Fiery Curtain-Raiser

The match between Buddu and Gomba promises to be a fiery curtain-raiser, with both teams looking to make a statement in the opening match.

The Bulange group is stacked with talented teams, and the winner of this match will set the tone for their campaign.

Will Buddu’s new leadership and squad dynamics be enough to defend their title, or will Gomba’s experience and new signings prove too much for them?

The stage is set for an exciting encounter.
