Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane said on Monday that Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club deserve their 2-0 victory in the 2022 TotalEnergies Champions League Final.

Mosimane added that he was happy with this first title won by Moroccan Walid Regragui.

“He’s a young technician, it’s his first African title and I’m happy for him, he’s a friend,” he said.

“Africa has enormous potential in terms of technicians and this title proves it,” he added.

Pitso Mosimane who won his first with Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in 2016, highlighted the remarkable work done by the African technicians.

“We applauded the titles won by African coaches during the 209 and 2021 AFCONs. The quality is there and not just in Europe,” he said, stressing that the best team, the one that has scored goals, won the final tonight.

“In football, especially in the final, you don’t ask who played well. The question is who won the match and tonight (Monday), Al Ahly failed to do so unlike Wydad,” he noted.

The South African technician praised the quality of the match and the attendance of spectators who gave voice and pushed their team to victory.

“It was a great final but we lacked success in front of goal, we managed to get chances but the ball didn’t find the nets,” he said.
