NAIROBI, 21 October 2026 – Uganda’s quest for more finalists at the 2026 African Boxing Championships gathers momentum today, with Alfred Ojok, Richard Kasujja and Aziz Abdul Ringo leading the Bombers’ charge in a decisive round of semi-final contests.

The trio will be seeking to join Mulungi Kassim, Samuel Nsubuga and Vanessa Nagawa in the finals as Uganda targets a bigger share of the gold medals at the continental showpiece in Nairobi.

Wednesday’s Session Five, which starts at 13:00, presents another opportunity for Uganda to build on an impressive campaign that has already guaranteed the country at least 13 bronze medals.

Middleweight Ojok (70–75kg) opens Uganda’s men’s campaign in Bout 64 against Tanzania’s Amos Tryphone Mberwa.

Having progressed to the last four, Ojok will be eager to maintain his form and secure a place in the final.

Light-heavyweight Kasujja (75–80kg) follows in Bout 66 against Algeria’s Mustapha Abdou. Known for his aggressive approach, Kasujja faces a demanding test, with victory guaranteeing him at least silver and keeping his gold-medal ambitions alive.

Heavyweight Ringo (85–90kg) will close Uganda’s campaign in Bout 71 against Angola’s Adilson Luta Mabanza.

The Ugandan is among the team’s established medal prospects and will be aiming to deliver another strong performance when the pressure is highest.

Cruiserweight Arafat Kibirige (80–85kg) also takes to the ring in Bout 69 against Angola’s Moises Chiangulula Gimbi Fiquissa, giving Uganda another opportunity to expand its representation in the finals.

In the women’s competition, Brendah Muduwa (48–51kg) faces Kenya’s Veronica Mbithe in Bout 55 as she seeks to progress to the gold-medal contest.

Uganda heads into Wednesday’s action buoyed by Tuesday’s successes, when Nsubuga defeated Kenya’s Emmanuel Odhiambo 5–0 in the bantamweight semi-finals, Mulungi stopped Algeria’s Hichem Maouche in the third round, and Nagawa outpointed Algeria’s Douaa Rouaz 5–0 to book their places in the finals.

Those victories strengthened Uganda’s prospects of converting its guaranteed medals into gold, although Tuesday also brought disappointments.

Emmanuel Tabule, Rashida Nakawoza, Peninah Amoding, Diana Atwine and Erina Namutebi all settled for bronze after losing their respective semi-final bouts.

With three Ugandans already through to the finals, attention now turns to Ojok, Kasujja, Ringo, Kibirige and Muduwa.

For the Bombers, the mission is clear: turn an already impressive medal haul into a stronger collection of finalists and give Uganda more opportunities to challenge for continental gold.
