NAIROBI, 20 October 2026 – Uganda’s female boxers will take centre stage on Day Four of the African Boxing Championships in Nairobi, with six semi-finalists seeking to strengthen the country’s medal prospects as the Bombers navigate a demanding afternoon schedule.

The women’s team, which has already delivered an impressive return with six of its seven representatives reaching the semi-finals, will be among Uganda’s main attractions when Session Four gets underway at 13:00 on Tuesday.

Rashida Nakawoza, Brendah Muduwa, Peninah Amoding, Vanessa Nagawa, Erina Namutebi and Diana Atwine have all secured places in the last four, guaranteeing Uganda medals and providing a strong foundation for the team’s continental campaign.

Tuesday’s schedule presents fresh tests for several of the women, with Nakawoza facing Kenya’s Grace Atieno in the 46–48kg category in Bout 39.

Amoding takes on Algeria’s Malak Nour E Aichoune in the women’s bantamweight division (51–54kg), while Nagawa meets Algeria’s Douaa Rouaz in the featherweight category (54–57kg).

Namutebi will face Algeria’s Benane Djouher in the women’s welterweight division (60–65kg), while Atwine takes on Nigeria’s Blessing Orakyue in the women’s light-heavyweight category (75–80kg).

With six women already through to the semi-finals, Uganda will be keen to translate its depth into further victories as the championship progresses towards the medal-deciding stages.

Beyond the women’s contests, attention will also turn to Samuel Nsubuga, whose demanding schedule raises questions about recovery and workload management.

The bantamweight, fresh from stopping Algeria’s Amine Zanaz in the third round of their quarter-final on Monday, is listed to face Kenya’s Emmanuel Odhiambo in Bout 49 on Tuesday.

The fixture comes amid a congested run of contests for Nsubuga, who also recorded a 5–0 victory over Benin’s Osias Agbotoney on the opening day.

His successive assignments will test his conditioning, recovery and ability to sustain his impressive form against increasingly difficult opposition.

Uganda’s other men in action include Khassim Mulungi, who faces Algeria’s Hichem Maouche in the lightweight division, and Emmanuel Tabule, who meets Kenya’s Clinton Machenia in the super-heavyweight category.

With 13 Ugandan boxers having reached the semi-finals by Monday, the Bombers have already guaranteed at least 13 bronze medals.

Day Four offers another opportunity to build on that achievement, with the women’s contingent expected to provide much of the team’s momentum.

The focus now is not simply on the number of medals secured, but on how many Ugandans can progress further and convert their promising campaigns into silver and gold.
