KAMPALA — Manchester United supporters across Uganda have been urged to turn up in large numbers at HAMZ Stadium, Nakivubo War Memorial, this Saturday as Man United Fans FC takes on Titans FC in the final Round of 16 fixture of the HAMZ Cup.
The call has been made by Bruno Kayongo, popularly known as Kayongo Fashions, who challenged the club’s supporters to create a memorable atmosphere as the team bids to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Speaking during a media meet-up on Tuesday, September 22, Kayongo described Saturday’s encounter as a significant day for Manchester United supporters in Uganda.
“I call upon every Manchester United fan to come in big numbers this Saturday. It is a big day for the Uganda Fans Club.
Let us fill this stadium as we back our team to secure the last quarter-final place in the HAMZ Cup,” Kayongo said.
The match comes as part of a full day of football at HAMZ Stadium, with the entrance fee set at UGX 5,000 for both fixtures.
The programme begins at midday with a FUFA Women’s Seper League encounter between URA FC Women and Makerere University, before Man United Fans FC face Titans FC at 7:00pm.
Man United Fans FC go into the decisive fixture unbeaten and will be looking to maintain that record against Titans as they chase one of the final two quarter-final places.
The supporters’ side also had a competitive warm-up against Uganda Premier League outfit Express FC at HAMZ Stadium on Tuesday, losing narrowly 3–2.
Meanwhile, HAMZ Cup Tournament Coordinator Hakim Kasirye says the competition has continued to deliver on the promises made by proprietor Hajj Hamis Kiggundu, through the tournament’s immediate supervisors Rogers Mulindwa and Stadium Manager Ashiraf Turyatunga.
Kasirye said the tournament’s promised prizes are already in place, with the competition for the biggest supporter turnout becoming increasingly intense.
“Every promised prize is already in place and we are now waiting for the big day. One of the exciting battles has been between teams with the biggest supporter bases,” Kasirye said.
He added that Man United Fans FC, TikTok FC and Sanyu D Bags have emerged as leading contenders in the supporters’ attendance contest, although other teams can still enter the race.
With the Round of 16 nearing completion, TikTok FC, Block F, Born Talents FC Mbuya, Kafumbe United, Nurmak Life Team and Tororo Boys have already booked their quarter-final places.
Best of the Best will face their Round of 16 opponent on Thursday, September 24, leaving Man United Fans FC and Titans FC to battle for the final quarter-final slot on Saturday.
The eight quarter-finalists will compete for the tournament’s UGX 10 million prize.
