Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC made a commanding start to their 2026/27 FUFA Women Super League title defence, sweeping aside newcomers Jinja United WFC 3–0 in an emphatic opening-day victory.
The champions needed just two minutes to announce their intentions, with Latifah Nakasi breaking the deadlock with the opening goal of the new campaign.
Nakasi’s strike also went into the record books as the first goal of the 2026/27 FUFA Women Super League season.
Kawempe doubled their advantage only a minute later when Aisha Naigaga inadvertently turned the ball into her own net while attempting to deal with Jovia Nakagolo’s effort, which had rebounded off the woodwork.
The two early strikes gave Kawempe a comfortable 2–0 lead at the interval.
Coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi responded with two changes at the start of the second half, introducing Belinda Nabawanuka and Shadia Nabirye for Shakirah Nyinagahirwa and Anitah Namata.
Nabawanuka made an immediate impact.
Just a minute after stepping onto the pitch, she found the back of the net in the 69th minute to extend Kawempe’s advantage to 3–0 and effectively put the result beyond Jinja United’s reach.
Kiyingi continued to rotate his squad late in the contest, with Asia Nakibuuka making way for Zaina Namboozo in the 89th minute.
The match also produced the first disciplinary records of the new season, with Kawempe players Kuruthum Namutebi and Jovia Nakagolo receiving yellow cards.
Despite the comfortable victory, one of the evening’s biggest talking points was the return of Shakirah Nyinagahirwa, who was named Player of the Match following her comeback from a lengthy injury lay-off.
Speaking after the match, Nyinagahirwa expressed her delight at returning to competitive football.
“I’m glad to be back on grass to feature in the Super League.
I thank the coaches for having confidence in me. It’s work in progress and I’m focused to see myself to the best version I’m known of.”
Kiyingi was equally encouraged by the midfielder’s performance, insisting that she will continue to improve as the season progresses.
“I’m happy with Shakirah Nyinagahirwa’s performance, who returns from a long-term injury.
By the middle of the season, she will be back to her peak to drive this team again.”
Kawempe will return to action on 26 September when they face She Maroons at Wankulukuku, while Jinja United WFC will host She Corporate at Iganga Ssaza Ground.
For the defending champions, the 3–0 victory provides an emphatic opening statement as they begin the long journey of defending their league crown.
