Maroons FC bounced back from their opening-day defeat in emphatic fashion, overcoming league debutants Ntugasaze 3–1 at Kira Road Police Arena on Wednesday to register their first victory of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League campaign.
Jackson Nunda was the architect of Maroons’ success, striking twice before Marvin Oshaba added a third from the penalty spot as the Prison Warders secured maximum points despite playing the final half-hour with 10 men.
Maroons, champions of the 1968/69 season, took control in the 18th minute when Nunda opened the scoring.
The forward struck again seven minutes before the interval, sending his side into the mandatory break with a commanding 2–0 advantage.
The visitors extended their lead just three minutes into the second half, Oshaba converting from 12 yards after Maroons were awarded a penalty.
Ntugasaze, playing their first season in the top flight, responded almost immediately. Ronald Kaye pulled one back in the 53rd minute to give the hosts renewed hope.
Their comeback prospects were strengthened when Maroons captain Edward Kabona was sent off, leaving the visitors to negotiate the final 30 minutes a man down.
Maroons, however, remained disciplined enough to protect their two-goal cushion and secure a valuable three points.
The victory represents a strong response from Maroons, who had begun their campaign with a 2–1 defeat to SC Villa at their temporary home in Wankulukuku.
For Ntugasaze, the result compounds a difficult start to life in the top flight, having also suffered a 1–0 defeat away to Blacks Power on Matchday One.
Elsewhere, Blacks Power maintained their perfect start under Simon Peter Mugerwa with a narrow 1–0 victory over Police in Hoima.
Matchday Two continues on Thursday, September 3, with Kataka hosting BUL at Bukedea Sports Complex, while Express welcome KCCA to Hamz Stadium for a Kampala derby under floodlights.
