Former Uganda Cranes captain Andy Mwesigwa has moved to reassure parents and students over the future of his school, AMESCO, following a public dispute with a commercial bank over a contested loan.

Mwesigwa on Tuesday, August 26, confirmed that the school will remain operational through the end of the year, clearing uncertainty that had surrounded its future ahead of the new academic term.

“Thank you to all the people who responded to my call; now I want to inform parents and students that our school is no longer in trouble; AMESCO is going nowhere until the end of this year,” Mwesigwa said.

The former Cranes defender further confirmed that the school is prepared for the new term, which begins on September 14, 2026, while maintaining its support for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“We are now ready to welcome our students for the next term and would also like to inform parents that we are still offering bursaries to the less privileged,” he added.

Mwesigwa’s latest update follows his recent appeal for public intervention in a dispute with ABC Bank, which he accused of attempting to fraudulently sell the school over a disputed loan.

He recently appeared at Jevine Hotel in Ndeeba, where he addressed the media and called for intervention from President Yoweri Museveni, CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Ministry of Education and Sports and the general public.

According to Mwesigwa, the bank had allegedly forged a Shs 480 million loan, despite him having already serviced more than Shs 400 million.

He also claimed that the outstanding amount had subsequently been inflated through interest to Shs 1.3 billion.

“I am objecting not because I don’t want to pay, but because I want to pay the right amount of money I actually owe, rather than a fraudulently inflated sum,” Mwesigwa stated.

Before taking his concerns to the public, Mwesigwa had lodged a complaint in the Commercial Court challenging the disputed debt.

He said he resorted to seeking public support after the court ordered him to pay 30 percent of the Shs 1.3 billion claimed debt within one month before his case could be heard.

Mwesigwa has since had his case heard, although he has opted not to disclose details regarding the current status of the pending matter.

For now, however, his latest message seeks to separate the school’s academic programme from the ongoing financial dispute, with AMESCO expected to welcome students when the new term begins.
