MOROGORO, Tanzania — Uganda’s St. Cyprian High School Kyabakadde and Amus College School made emphatic statements on the opening day of the boys’ basketball competition at the 23rd Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games in Morogoro, Tanzania.

St. Cyprian announced their arrival in style, overwhelming Tanzania’s Nsumba Secondary School 77–43 to take early command of Group A.

The Kyabakadde-based side, whose preparations were disrupted by travel difficulties, nevertheless produced a composed and dominant display to launch its campaign on a winning note.

Group A also features Uganda’s St. Michael High School, defending champions ITS Kigali of Rwanda, Nsumba of Tanzania and Kenya’s Lukenya School.

In Group B, Amus College School ran riot against Tanzania’s School of St. Jude, cruising to a 102–27 victory to move straight to the summit.

The 75-point margin underlined Amus’ credentials as they seek to make another deep run at the regional championship.

The group also comprises Kenya’s Friends School Kamusinga and Tanzania’s Juhudi.

The Ugandan dominance extended to the girls’ competition, where St. Mary’s Kitende defeated Nabisunsa Girls Secondary School 63–47 in an all-Uganda encounter.

Kenya’s Kaya Tiwi also opened its campaign with a commanding 90–49 victory over Tanzania’s URU Community.

For St. Cyprian, the meeting with Lukenya represents a significant early test, with the Kenyan side capable of challenging for top spot in Group A.

Assistant coach Jack Okisai, who took charge in the absence of head coach John Omondi, admitted that the opening victory came despite the physical toll of the journey.

“It was a hard game for us despite winning with a big margin.

The journey hiccups and distance caused fatigue and we didn’t play our game.

However, we are thankful for the win and our focus now turns to tomorrow’s game against Lukenya.

It going to be our hardest group game and likely a group leader decisive.

With no injuries acquired today, cards are still in our hands”.

Okisai is standing in for Omondi, who is away with the Junior Gazelles in Treichville, Abidjan, where Uganda is competing at the 2026 FIBA U18 African Basketball Championship.
