The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Nansana District Weekend League has ushered in a transformative chapter with the historic introduction of girls’ football, marking a significant stride toward inclusivity and competitive diversity in school sports.
Traditionally a preserve of boys’ football, the league has expanded its portfolio in its third edition to accommodate female participation, a move widely applauded by stakeholders as progressive and long overdue.
The Nansana Sports Committee has further broadened the horizon by introducing basketball as a second new discipline, with its championship slated to tip off in the coming weeks.
The landmark moment was officially unveiled at Alliance High School grounds, where the hosts delivered a commanding statement of intent.
Alliance High School’s girls’ team produced a ruthless attacking display, dismantling St. Raphael Future Bells 8-0 in a one-sided but symbolic opener that underscored both quality and enthusiasm in the new category.
Bridget Ainebyona starred with a clinical brace, while Nasuuna Josephine, Nalumansi Resty, Nakassaga Kauthara, Nassali Suzan, Ndibarekera Jaziirah, and Immaculate Komuhindo each found the back of the net to complete the rout.

The league, which kicked off this weekend, will run through to the end of the third school term, culminating in the crowning of champions across all disciplines.
In its previous two editions, the competition exclusively featured boys’ football, with Greenlight Islamic Secondary School-Nansana asserting dominance by clinching both titles.
The introduction of girls’ football not only enriches the competitive landscape but also signals a deliberate shift toward gender equity in grassroots sports development within the district.
As the season unfolds, attention will firmly rest on how the new entrants shape the narrative of a league that is rapidly evolving into a multi-sport platform for nurturing young talent.
