Defensive solidity took centre stage as reigning champions Buweekula were held to a goalless draw by Kyaddondo in the opening fixture of the 2026 Buganda Masaza Cup (Bulange Group) at Mubende’s Teachers Training College on Saturday.
Kyaddondo captain Trevor Kalule emerged man of the match, marshalling his backline with composure, timely clearances and decisive aerial command to frustrate the title holders.
His leadership ensured Kyaddondo secured a valuable point against a side that lifted last season’s crown.
The visitors started brightly, with Kenneth Ssebaduka going close inside two minutes, while Buweekula gradually grew into the contest, forcing corners and testing Ashraf Bwabye in goal.
Denis Konde and Ssebaduka stood out in an evenly balanced first half played at high tempo under sunny conditions.
After the break, Buweekula showed greater urgency, introducing fresh legs and pushing forward, but Kyaddondo remained organised.
Late pressure saw Livingstone Kaweesi test Bwabye from a set piece, while Patrick Kagulire missed narrowly from distance.
Despite end-to-end exchanges and tactical adjustments on both sides, neither team found the decisive touch.
The encounter was graced by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, marking a spirited but stalemated start to this year’s competition.
