Kyadondo Secondary School etched their name into the history books after securing qualification to the 2026 Federation of East Africa Schools Sports (FEASSA) Games in Morogoro, Tanzania, courtesy of a hard-fought 1-0 victory over defending champions Buddo SS in the USSSA U20 Boys’ Football Championship quarterfinals on Sunday.
In a tightly contested encounter at Lira Town College Playground, Bashir Edema emerged the hero, calmly converting from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute to send Kyadondo into uncharted territory—their first-ever semifinal at the national tournament.
The decisive moment arrived when Buddo goalkeeper Edirisa Waibi brought down the lively Joseph Jude Kakooza inside the penalty area, leaving the referee with little choice but to point to the spot.
Edema stepped up with composure beyond his years, dispatching a fierce strike straight down the middle as Waibi dived the wrong way.
Kyadondo, featuring in only their second national championship, showcased tactical discipline and defensive resilience to protect their slender lead.
Buddo SS, renowned for their pedigree and attacking prowess, pressed relentlessly in search of an equaliser, but Kyadondo’s backline held firm under sustained pressure.
This triumph marks a significant milestone for the rising side, who continue to build on last year’s debut campaign.
In 2025, Kyadondo were eliminated at the quarterfinal stage by Bukedea Comprehensive School in a dramatic 9-8 penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in Ngora.
Their progression this year signals a rapid evolution into genuine title contenders.
By reaching the semifinals, Kyadondo have not only kept their championship dream alive but have also secured a coveted ticket to represent Uganda at the FEASSA Games later this year.
Attention now turns to the semifinal stage, where Kyadondo SS will face either Amus College School or London College Nansana as they seek to extend their fairytale run.
