Greenlight Islamic Secondary School–Nansana delivered a statement performance to mark their arrival at the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Boys’ Football National Championship, dismantling Dr. Obote College 5-0 in a dominant Group K opener in Lira City.
At the heart of the emphatic victory was the outstanding Shafiq Ssegirinya, whose clinical hat-trick underscored both his attacking prowess and Greenlight’s intent to contend at the highest level.
The forward proved unplayable throughout the encounter, combining sharp movement with ruthless finishing to hand his side a dream start.
Elvis Kimuli and Mark Dandali each added a goal to complete the rout, capping off a polished team performance defined by fluid attacking play, cohesion, and defensive solidity.
In the other Group K fixture, St. Joseph’s Buyaya edged Aringa Secondary School 1-0 in a tightly contested affair, ensuring early competition at the top of the standings.
Following matchday one, Greenlight Islamic SS sit atop Group K with three points and a superior goal difference, while St. Joseph’s Buyaya occupy second place with an identical points tally.
Attention now shifts to the next round of fixtures, where Greenlight will face Aringa Secondary School, while St. Joseph’s Buyaya take on Dr. Obote College in what promises to be another decisive day in the group.
The ten-day championship, hosted in Lira City, will culminate on May 19, with the tournament’s semi-finalists earning qualification to represent Uganda at the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games slated for August in Morogoro, Tanzania.
