Blacks Power Football Club reinforced their command at the top of the FUFA Big League standings with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Nebbi Central on Match Day 27, played at the Ebenezar University playground on Sunday.

The Lira-based side now sit comfortably on 51 points from 27 matches, taking another decisive step in their promotion push.

After a balanced opening spell, Blacks Power struck early through Isaac Okello, who rose highest to head home Michael Siiwu’s well-delivered cross in the 10th minute.

The hosts looked in control, but Nebbi Central responded just before the break.

David Ochirachan timed his run to perfection, beat the offside trap, and calmly slotted past goalkeeper Michael Okiria in the 40th minute to restore parity heading into halftime.

The second half proved decisive, though not without drama.

Blacks Power were awarded a penalty in the 63rd minute after Okech was brought down in the area, but Siiwu’s effort was brilliantly saved, momentarily keeping Nebbi Central in the contest.

However, the hosts’ persistence paid off almost immediately.

Referee William Oloya pointed to the spot again two minutes later after Isaac Okello was fouled in the box.

This time, Paul Oonyu made no mistake, converting confidently to restore Blacks Power’s lead.

Nebbi Central pushed for another equalizer, but Blacks Power held firm, nearly extending their advantage late on when Siiwu’s audacious 40-yard free-kick rattled the crossbar in the 88th minute.

Earlier, both teams observed a moment of silence in honour of Joe “Biggie” Ebong, a devoted football fan who tragically passed away while watching an English Premier League match between Manchester City and Everton.

In the end, it was Blacks Power’s resilience and clinical edge that made the difference, as they continue to set the pace at the summit of Uganda’s second-tier league.
